I touch upon all of these in this week’s Safety by Qavach, a newsletter that captures some of my writings on our industry. The Strait of Hormuz is on everyone’s lips these days, for all the wrong reasons. In decades past, I sailed through that very Strait during the Iran–Iraq War.
Recently, I had a reflective conversation with Marcus Hand on the Seatrade Maritime News Podcast. We spoke of navigating uncertainty, leadership, and safety during high-risk maritime operations in the Strait of Hormuz during that conflict.
The discussion revisited my real-world experiences aboard the VLCC Caribbean Breeze, including surviving an Iranian missile strike. It was a discussion that was both professional and at once personal. I hope it resonates with those navigating uncertainty — at sea or otherwise.
