I am tempted to remain with my trend of speaking on technology and safety, yet this week, there are a number of more personal elements that my newsletter wishes to touch on.
Firstly, saluting Quantum BSO and the team - both past and present - who have made these 23 years possible. I have called out many of the old timers, but here I would like to shout out to a special client partner, Guaran Feeder S.A. ran feeder, who has been a rock for us when we found ourselves in times of trouble, and GYTWorkz who has partnered with us in our quest for an Autonomous Terminal Safety Intelligence (ATSI) system - with trust in our vision and passion.
Second, honour a man whom I have always respected immensely, as has the maritime fraternity, especially in Singapore. S.S. Teo. A true legend, and his legacy was built in harder times when creating a shipping empire was not all about financial cloud and market dominance.
Thirdly, saluting the global unsung hero - the seafarer. We eat, drink, consume, discard but never for a moment do we pay any respect for those "boys" who crew the ships that bring it all to you. The hardship, loneliness, separation from families, rough seas - and now war hostages.

Why don't we have a crippling container shortage?
Those who recall will remember that the first thing that happened during COVID was that container inventory remained stationary in Asia and Europe.
Now, we have a large pool stuck in the Gulf - on land and at sea - and we have a large parcel at sea going around the Cape and adding transit time, thereby exacerbating availability in Europe and Asia.
So, why are exporters at both ends not in strife over this? Or maybe I have just not read enough about this "crisis". An interesting conversation brewing here.
