Millions across the world use it, and amazingly, it continues to grow. But today I am thinking about what Google Maps teaches us.
It is an analogy some might have heard me speak of before!
As young 21-year-olds, we studied "π·ππππππ π·πππππππ" in the book on π·ππππππππ π΅πππππππππ written by Capt. H. Subramaniam- an absolute genius.
Conceptually, Google Maps is not very different (though technically a light year ahead!)
Most people take the functionality of a service like Maps for granted, not giving it a second thought. But for many of us in the software solutions business, it represents project management at its best.
And so, these are the lessons I give our teams:
•Do not start any initiative unless you have a precise As-Is and To-Be position
•Document your path of execution. Analyse thoroughly the possible detours and roadblocks.
•Monitor progress in real time. Measure deviation and risk
•Take early and substantial action when deviation is predicted- not when it is disruptive.
Passage Planning and Google Maps are my greatest lessons in life.
There have been others - my father was a very wise man - but these are the two I would impart to anyone, at any time.
The proverbial “Passage” for any Terminal is a safe day, a safety culture, zero incidents, and the Voyage is your team going home safe at the end of the shift.
That is how team Qavach views the product we build.
